Although the new PMW-EX1R does offer many welcome improvements over the original EX1, there are not enough changes to warrant creating a totally new 3-hour training video or a new Field Guide book. Operationally, the EX1 and EX1R are basically the same camera.

If you have an EX1R, or are planning on getting one, we’re confident you’ll find that our “Mastering the Sony PMW-EX1” DVD will provide 99% of the information that you need to know to get the most out of your new camera.

However, obviously there are several important differences between the EX1 and EX1 that are too important to ignore. That's why Vortex Media has produced a 40-minute supplemental video that addresses the operational differences between the EX1 and EX1R. The purpose of this video will be to address any information in the “Mastering the Sony PMW-EX1” DVD that is different for the EX1R.

Will there be a new Field Guide for the EX1R?
There are no plans to publish a new Field Guide book for the PMW-EX1R. So, if you want to carry a Field Guide in your EX1R camera bag, we highly recommend getting the PMW-EX1 Field Guide because 99% of the information in the book applies to both cameras. Yes, there are differences between the two cameras, particularly in the order of the menu screens, but those differences should be obvious when you use the book. Go to the Field Guide.
