The stock lens on your camcorder provides excellent picture quality, but it has a limited telephoto range for shooting sports, wildlife, and even macro. One solution is to buy a professional broadcast TV lens -- but that can cost $6000 - $20,000.

Now, there is an affordable solution. The Adaptimax allows you to mount ordinary Nikon SLR lenses on your camcorder. SLR lenses are far less expensive than broadcast TV lenses, but still give excellent results.

There are currently three Adaptimax models to choose from:

1) Adaptimax

(ADAPT1)
The original Adaptimax will work with all Nikon lenses with an external aperture ring. The Adaptimax gives a magnification factor of 5.4x, which makes it perfect for shooting wildlife or macro. You can now get the shots that are impossible with the stock Sony PMW-EX3 lens. If you already own or are going to purchase DX or G Series Nikon lenses,(the newer Nikon lenses that do not have an external aperture ring) you should purchase the Adaptimax+Plus (see below). The original Adaptimax cannot operate the shutter of DX and G Series Nikon lenses. Color: Red

2) Adaptimax+Plus:

(ADAPT2)
The Adaptimax+Plus is designed for use with all NIkon lenses, including the DX and G series of Nikon lenses which do not have an external aperture ring. It has a specially designed built-in thumbscrew which can open and close the iris of DX and G glass lenses. The Adaptimax+Plus even works with Nikon lenses that DO HAVE external aperture rings. So if you already own DX or G Series lenses, or are considering buying newer Nikon lenses, the Adaptimax+Plus is the right choice to make. Both the original Adaptimax and the Adaptimax+Plus are built to the same exacting standards and quality. Color: Red

3) Adaptimax-Z7:

(ADAPT3)
The Adaptimax-Z7 is designed to mount Nikon lenses on the Sony HVR-Z7 and other camcorders which have a standard 1/3" bayonet mount. These cameras include: JVC GY-HD 100 and 200; Panasonic HPX300; JVC GY-HM700; Sony HVR-Z7; Sony HVR-S270. The Adaptimax-Z7 provides a magnification factor of 7x, which makes it perfect for shooting wildlife or macro. You can now get the shots that are impossible with the stock lens. NOTE: The Adaptimax-Z7 can only be used with Nikon lenses which have an external aperture ring. Color: Light Blue

Why get an Adaptimax?

Because of the smaller sensor size of camcorders (compared to a digital SLR cameras) the Adaptimax provides a "magnification factor" of 5.4x for 1/2" cameras and 7x for 1/3" cameras --which makes this adapter perfect for shooting wildlife, sports, news, or macro. For example, when mounted on the EX3, a 300mm lens is the equivalent of 1600mm lens on a 35mm SLR. There's no loss of light, no color fringing or chromatic aberration, and it has excellent sharpness from edge-to-edge. You must see it to believe it.

Now you can get shots that are impossible with the limited telephoto range of the your camcorder's stock lens. Mount an 80-200 f/2.8, or 300mm f/4 lens on the camera and the results will astound you.

Extremely high in quality, the Adaptimax is CNC milled from high grade aluminum, before being anodized. It is then fitted out with an extremely hard wearing brass Nikon mount which is then chrome plated for even longer durability. The Adaptimax is built to last and warranted for 12 months.

FAQs

Does Vortex Media manufacture the Adaptimax?

No. Adaptimax is manufactured in England by Adaptimax. Vortex Media is the authorized USA importer/reseller.

Which cameras work with the Adaptimax?

Depending on the model of Adaptimax, they are designed to be used on the Sony PMW-EX3, HVR-Z7, HVR- S270, JVC GY-HD 100 and 200; Panasonic HPX300; JVC GY-HM700.

Is there a guarantee with the Adaptimax?

All Adaptimax products have a 12 month warranty.

Will wide-angle lenses work with the Adaptimax?

Yes, but there is no benefit except with some macro lenses. Because of the 5.4x and 7x crop factor, wide angle lenses will not provide a wide-angle view. For example, the stock lens that comes on the EX3 has a focal length range of 5.8mm to 81.2mm. You aren't going to find an SLR lens that is wider than 5.8mm, and certainly not one with an f/1.9 aperture. So, any Nikon lens with a focal length of 82mm or less is not going to provide any benefit over the stock lens. The exception to that is if you have a specialty lens, such as a macro, that provides capabilities not found with the stock lens.

Does the Adaptimax work with other brands of lenses besides Nikon?

Yes. Any brand of lens (Sigma, Tamron, etc.) will work with the Adaptimax if it has a Nikon mount.

Do auto-focus and auto-exposure
functions work with the SLR lenses?

No. There is no electronic connection between the lens, the Adaptimax, and the camcorder. All exposure control and focusing must be done manually. However, for an experienced camera operator this should be no problem at all.
